Unlearning Traffic

Posted in Travel

In my home state of Minnesota the citizens are rightly proud of our reputation for being "Minnesota nice." The compliment even extends to our freeways where it is unusual for people to zoom to the front of a crowded freeway lane and wedge themselves in. According to this informative article, however, it may not only be OK to be a prick and budge to the front of a traffic jam, it might actually be the socially optimum choice. (Of course, beware: Other drivers might not be so enlightened by the complex mathematics behind this counter-intuitive finding and you could find yourself on the receiving end of a violent case of "road rage" if you're careful.)
