Editor’s note: This week I have been giving a good deal of thought to the subject of imagination. As result, all of this week’s recommendations pertain to the issue of imagination.

Think: Imagination influences everything we do, think about, and create. Imagination can also be a leader’s best friend, therefore, it behooves the prudent leader to spend some time thinking about the issue. This article on The Importance of Imagination is a good place to start.

Think Harder: In difficult times, imagination can also be one of the hardest things to keep alive. The wise leader, however, understands imagination can be a competitive advantage. This HBR article, We Need Imagination Now More Than Ever, explains why you want to think harder about the issue, today.

Think Smarter: I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your brain is fundamentally a lazy piece of meat. This article on The Neuroscience of Imagination provides a few concrete suggestions for improving your imagination. Too lazy to read the article? Here’s just one tip–go to a museum and sit before a single piece of art for an entire hour.

Think Like a Child: If you want to be more imaginative, it helps to think like a child. Here’s why imaginative play is important for a child’s development–and why it’s also important for the future success of your business.

Heart-Centered Thinking: Why else is imagination so important? It ignites passion! Here are 5 surprising reasons why imagination is more important than reality.

Until next week: Don’t stop thinking about the future! But also never forget “It is easier to act your way into a new way of thinking than think your way into a new way of acting“!
