Do you remember the 1987 movie, Wall Street, in which Michael Douglas plays Wall Street tycoon, Gordon Gecco.

In the movie, they show Gekko using a Motorola DynaTac 8000X cellphone. In 1987, the phone–which is now known as “The Brick”–cost $3,995.00.

Fast forward to 2012. The photo to your right (below) is of an unemployment line on Wall Street.

What’s fascinating is that every unemployed person has a cellphone.

It is not just a cellphone, however. You can access the Internet; social network; play game; and store every song you’ve ever owned on it. Why, if you are so motivated, you can shoot, edit and produce your own movie on today’s smartphone.

What’s even better is that it costs about 5 percent of what’s Gekko’s Brick cost just 25 years ago.

It is a tangible reminder that the future will get better, faster and cheaper.

As it does, Wall Street–and its brokers and stocks–will never be the same.
