Driving into the Future with Supercomputers

The idea of self-driving cars still seems a little far-fetched to many people. I, however, believe we are getting closer all the time. For starters, two robotic cars are currently driving from Italy to China. This speaks to how robotics will play in this future, but there is another interesting development going on which I have written about before and that is the revolution in supercomputing. According to this article, supercomputers are already “mimicking human vision” and will soon be able be able “to drive as well as a person.”

Eventually, of course, supercomputers will even get better than people–much as they did at playing humans in chess. The machines’ reactions will be faster, they won’t “drink and drive,” and, best of all, because they will have multicore processors they will be able to handle multiple tasks such as texting and driving at the same time!
