Flip-Flopping Education

There is no shortage of methods for unlearning. In fact, my forthcoming book, Higher Unlearning: 39 Post-Requisite Lessons for Achieving a Successful Future will highlight over three dozen such ways. One of the methods not included in the book is the idea of flip-flopping. I have written about this idea before but I'd now like to provide a tangible example of this idea in action.
The education industry is in desperate need of unlearning and one man showing the path forward is Salman Khan who just five short years ago began tutoring his nieces online. Today, over one million students have accessed his growing library (2,200 and counting) of online video tutorials.
The beauty of Khan's approach is that it redefines the teacher's role by "flipping the classroom." Instead of giving a lecture and then making a child do their "homework" at home, the video tutorials can be watched (and, if necessary, re-watched) by the student at home. This simple act (which kids tend to really enjoy) then allows the teacher to use the classroom time to help those students who still have not grasped the basic concepts of the subject being taught.
