Recently, Cisco announced that mobile web video communications are expected to grow “250-fold by 2015.” This has a number of implications but have you ever thought about how this change will impact office design? Cisco and Microsoft have. The former has discovered that 35 percent of it’s office cubicles now stand empty because its employees are telecommuting, working on the road or in another office space. Microsoft discovered much the same thing and recently installed “garages” at its headquarter campus so mobile workers could stop, “park” and then work and collaborate as necessary.
Offices and office buildings aren’t going to go away in the future but they will be redesigned in ways that maximize employee productivity while minimizing real estate costs.
Is your company designing itself for the future? If not, why not?
