Think: My annual list of predictions for the coming year will give you plenty to think about this week. Each prediction is based on a real technology or trend that could easily be commercialized in the coming year. (As an added bonus the predictions should leave you feeling optimistic about the future.)
Think Hard: Artificial intelligence is ushering in a revolution in biology and it is going to be HUGE. If you are in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, agribusiness, or energy industries you need to read this article–It will change everything: DeepMind’s AI makes gigantic leap in solving protein structures-–and begin thinking hard about how your future could change.
Think Harder: If the previous article wasn’t enough of a game-changer, you will need to think even harder about the future because the field of synthetic biology is also getting exponentially better. As this article, Ginkgo Bioworks CEO Wants Biology to Manufacture Physical Goods, explains everything from fuels to animal-free foods might soon be grown using the tools of biology.
Think Smaller: The world is not returning to “business as usual.” As an example of why this is the case, I give you this article, Unusual Times Call for Unusual Thinking: To Win Big, Go Small.
Heart-Centered Thinking: Think you are a hero? Think again. The future is changing rapidly and the actions many of us are mindlessly taking today might not be viewed so favorably by future generations. You may not agree with the perspectives outlined in my latest article on Medium, What It Means to Be a Hero: Lessons from Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, but I hope you will at least take them to heart.
Until next week: Don’t stop thinking about the future! But also never forget “It is easier to act your way into a new way of thinking than think your way into a new way of acting!”
