Think: Earlier this week, I traveled to Miami to deliver a keynote to the utility industry. Interestingly, Elon Musk recently said the industry will need to produce 3X the amount of electricity it is currently producing by 2045. Of course, the vast majority of this energy will need to be sustainable. Fortunately, advances in renewable energy appear to be keeping pace. Just this week, a new world record for solar cell efficiency was broken.
Think Bigger: I would have thought that this news would have received greater media coverage: “lean, green flying machines have taken wing in Paris.” It portends a revolution in transportation.
Think Different: Personally, I am a big fan of “forest bathing”–or walking in nature for reasons of physical and mental health. Surprisingly, the benefits might even be derived if you do your “forest bathing” in virtual reality. (Note: If you can do it the old-fashioned way by going to a local park or forest, I suggest you do so. However, if such spaces aren’t readily available or you have physical ailments that prohibit you from traveling, virtual forest bathing may be the next best thing!) Always be prepared to think–and act–differently.
Think Visually: This is a visual for those in the energy and utility sectors. Advances in sodium ion and iron batteries are getting very good and will soon help our electric grid handle renewable energies such as wind and solar even more effectively.
Think the Impossible: Microsoft claims to have achieved the first milestone in creating a practical and reliable quantum computer. This is significant because quantum computers will rapidly accelerate the development of everything from new drugs and materials to better batteries.
Afterthought: “Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, mankind will have discovered fire”.–Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
