Jack Uldrich’s “Friday Future 5:” March 31, 2023
Think: Researchers at Michigan State University have made a solar cell that could make every window in your house a power source. Meanwhile, Heliatek, a company in Australia, is busy trying to make the exterior of every building a solar panel. The future is looking bright but there is a dark side–how will society dispose of all these solar windows and cells at the end of their useful life?
Think Again: Artificial intelligence, much like Bitcoin, has a dirty secret: It uses massive amounts of energy and generates a great deal of CO2 emissions. Perhaps, in the near future, if we ask AI what the best thing society can do to control CO2 emission, it will tell us humans to stop relying so much on AI. Just a thought …
Think Cheap: For years, I have been advising individuals and organizations to beware of how certain products can–and will become–materially cheaper in the future. To this end, this little factoid caught my attention: For the time it took our grandparents to earn the money to buy one song in 1955, we get 19,750 songs today.
Think Harder: ChatGPT is about to revolutionize the economy. This is something we all need to be thinking about. This article can help.
Think Differently: Want some help thinking about the future differently? Checkout this article and its graphics for an eye-popping example of how much the world can change in a single lifetime.
