Today is the first day of the new school year for my two children (ages 9 and 11). It can be exciting time but it also be a nerve wracking time if you are a student attending a new school. I always encourage my children to seek out and befriend the new kids.
I also encourage them to avoid making quick judgements on these new students. But the more I have thought about it, the more convinced I am that it is adults who need this reminder.
Therefore, in honor of "back-to-school" day, I would like to encourage you to engage in a "non-judgement day."
Hold off making quick judgements about the actions of your spouse, your work colleague, the clerk in the store, the person in traffic in front of you, or the dozens of other people you are likely to encounter today.
If you are honest with yourself and just observe your actions, you'll be surprised how quickly you make judgements about people based on precious little information or evidence.
