In the not-to-distant future people may be able to make their perfumes thanks to advances in micro-reactor technology.
The technology is unlikely to render traditional perfumes obsolete for the simple reason that most people won’t want to bother with making their own perfume. However, just as some people prefer to brew their own beer and make their own clothes and music, a small subset of people are also likely to want to create their own unique, one-of-a-kind smell. [Edit: Of course many people already do this by sweating … but that’s not what I’m talking about here.]
