I recently finished reading Abraham Heschel’s book, “I Asked for Wonder.” (I highly recommend it.)
Near the end of the book, he wrote: “The future of all men depends upon realizing that the sense of holiness is as vital as health.”
Finding, sustaining and growing in this “holiness” has not been easy for me. In fact, most of the time, I feel as though I am just wandering in the wilderness in my search for God, in my search for meaning.
But here’s the thing, this sense of “wandering in the wilderness” is not a bad thing. As Moses says in the Bible, “If Thou Thyself dost not go with us, take us not out of the wilderness.” (Exodus 33:15). In other words, it is better to remain in the wilderness than to abandon Him.
I remain convinced that our future–the future of humanity–is dependent upon finding and returning to God.
How exactly this will happen, I am unsure; but I remain committed to wandering in the wilderness until the path becomes clear.
