One of the best ways to begin unlearning is to ask a new question. Is this spirit, what better question to ask than this: What questions aren't you asking?
If you need a little jump start in this exercise, here are a few questions that might get your unlearning juices flowing:
1. What don't I know? (One method to begin answering this question is to construct an anti-resume.)
2. What if I'm wrong?
3. What could prove me wrong?
4. What would it really take for me to change my mind?
5. What don't my customers want? And why?
6. What do my non-customers want? And why?
7. What books haven't I read? (If you can't answer this question, consider starting an anti-library).
8. What has become unclear to me in the last day/week/year?
9. How is my competition better/faster/smarter than me?
10. Am I in-charge of the situation or is the situation in charge of me?
11. What do I need to unlearn?
The most important question, however, is this one: Why aren't you asking — and attempting to answer — these questions?
(P.S. If you have additional questions that aren't being asked — but believe need to be — I'd love to hear from you).
