As a former naval officer, I recall being called a "dog" by a Marine gunny sergeant on more than one occasion during my days at officer candidate school. I would have a harder time, however, envisioning being told by the same instructor to get in the "downward-facing dog" yoga position but, as this article suggests, yoga might actually assist soldiers in becoming better shooters by helping them relax and breathe easier.
Time will tell if the military can unlearn its century old reliance on calisthenics and instead embrace yoga. Even if it can’t, the idea of seeing a Marine gunny instruct a bunch of recruits in a bright pink leotard brings a smile to my face.
