I love the above quote from Bertrand Russel. In its spirit, here then are ten questions for our educational establishment:
1. Why should school begin at the age of 5?
2. Why should the average school day be 7 hours?
3. Why do most school years still last 9 months?
4. Why don't most schools have classes on Saturday?
5. Why should teaching be a life-long profession?
6. Why should a four-year college education be the expectation for most children?
7. Why should college begin after high school and why should it last 4 years?
8. Why should college professors get tenure?
9. Why should many professional degrees — law, medicine, various PhDs, etc. — take a defined length of time (e.g. three years)?
10. Why don't we teach unlearning?
