Think: One of my favorite articles of the year. It always gives me plenty to think about, and I know it can help you. Here is MIT’s annual list of 10 Breakthrough Technologies 2020. A couple of the technologies from the list: An unhackable internet, hyper personalized medicine, digital money, and anti-aging drugs.
Think Twice: U.S. election officials need to think twice. The 2020 elections could be on “thin ice:” Coronavirus May Disrupt the 2020 Election.
Think About Change: This was one of the more insightful articles I read during the past week: How to Change Anyone’s Mind. (Hint: It helps to begin by removing barriers.)
Think Different: One of my preferred techniques for thinking differently is imagining I am wrong (which isn’t that hard). That’s why I really enjoyed this article. If you’re a farmer or in the food or agri-business industry, I encourage you to read it: What If How We’re Thinking About Agriculture is All Wrong?
Think Smarter: Shenzen is at the vanguard of the “smart city” movement. If you’re an urban planner, the time is right to begin thinking about the pros and the cons of a smart city: Shenzen’s Smart City Technology Made it Safer and More Efficient. Is the Trade-Off Worth it?
Think Harder: What will it mean for you, your business, and society when people routinely begin living to 100? We need to think harder about this question now: Welcome to the Multi-stage Life.
Think Like a Futurist: William Gibson is an extraordinary futurist and sci-fi writer. Unfortunately, he has lost his sense of wonder and awe about the future. It is up to us to help reclaim it. This article won’t necessarily help, but it points to the problem before us: The Darkness Where the Future Should Be.
Think Better: Thinking about 2020 is good, thinking about 2030 can be even better: Predictions for 2030 by People Shaping the World.
Think Bigger: If you’re in the retail business, you need to think about it now: Amazon Opens First Full-Size Grocery Store. This trend could grow bigger.
Think Faster: An environmental ethos is growing fast among many people–especially younger generations. You need to think about how fast this trend could–and will–impact your business: The Rise of an Environmental Ethos.
Re-Think: Mary Barra had to rethink a lot of things in order to remake General Motors. Her leadership skills can also help the rest of us rethink how we might want to retool–and redirect–our businesses for the future: How Mary Barra Resurrected General Motors.
Think Anew: What is the future of connection and shared meaning? I don’t know the answer, but communities will play a critical role.
Think Sustainably: If you live, work, or do business in the American West, the time to begin thinking sustainably about water was yesterday. The next best time–today! Climate Change is Drying Up the Colorado River.
Think in Questions: As if coronavirus isn’t scary enough, here’s another question we might all want to ponder before it is too late: How Will We Know if AI is About to Destroy Civilization?
Think the Unthinkable: An atmosphere filled with satellites can deliver plenty of wonderful things, but it also carries a darker side: Hackers Could Shut Down Satellites–or Turn Them into Weapons.
P.S. I know this week’s “Future 15” is a little bleak (and, if you’ve followed the stock market down this week, you may be even more down), but below are three past posts to give you reasons for optimism:
50 of the Best News Stories of 2019, Illustrated.
We’ve Just Had the Best Decade in Human History, Seriously.

Want to think again? You can always revisit last week’s “Future 15”.
Until next week: Don’t stop thinking about the future! But also never forget “It is easier to act your way into a new way of thinking than think your way into a new way of acting“!
