Think: The Future is Changing Fast: Leverage It. This was a wonderful overview of a keynote I delivered in Seattle earlier this week to the home care and hospice industry. The trends and the actions I discuss apply to every industry, however.
Think Twice: Many people mistakenly believe automation will only happen to convenience store clerks, truck drivers, and paper pushers. These people need to think twice because they might be o the ones on thin ice: Automation’s Slow-Motion Impact on Modern Workers.
Think Historically: It is hard to remember but many ideas–slavery, not providing women the right to vote, gay rights–were once accepted by a majority of people. Today, we condemn such practices. Is it possible future generations will condemn us? The unfortunate answer is yes: Polluting Planet May Become as Reviled as Slavery.
Think Different: Culture change is created by people who think differently. Here’s a wonderful example of how culture is changing before our very eyes: Thanks to the Extinction Rebellion, We’re Experiencing a Climate Culture Change.
Think Smarter: Want to think smart about the future? (And, really, who doesn’t?) Try reading John Hagel’s “zoom out, zoom in” approach to learning and strategy.
Think Harder: If you’re a farmer or in agribusiness, you should begin thinking harder about regenerative agriculture. This article can help.
Think Like a Futurist: Fellow futurist, Ross Dawson, was some intriguing insights into the future of retirement.
Think in Questions: Here’s an important question that should get you thinking: What would you do if you thought humankind was almost out of time to save the planet? This fascinating article by Astra Taylor, Out of Time: Listening to Climate’s Clock, offers much to reflect upon.
Think 10X: There are reasons to be optimistic about our ability to address climate change. Here’s a potential gamechanger: New Material Efficiently Captures Carbon Dioxide.
Think Bigger: If you think uber-climate activist Greta Thunberg is just a one-person phenom, think again. Four hundred scientists are taking her message of activism to heart. This growing activism, in turn, will change how many consumers think about doing business with those businesses that they don’t perceive as being “part of the solution.”
Think Faster: 5G and rural broadband could arrive sooner than expected. Think fast … SpaceX hopes to launch 30,000 satellites to blanket the globe.
Think Radically: In today’s scientific and technological age, it is easy to believe we are at the pinnacle of human understanding. But even in a few years, 2019 will be perceived as the “dark ages.” There is still so much we don’t know about how to properly treat a number of diseases. Scientists Found New Antibiotic Molecule–Right in the Human Microbiome.
Think Anew: Want to think anew? Try adopting a surfer’s mindset.
Think Sustainably: Paris Plans “Urban Forests” at Famous Landmarks. Parking spots will give way to “mini-gardens” and small “islands of freshness” will soon be created in the City of Lights.
Think the Unthinkable: This idea may be “unthinkable” for many people, but what if capitalism is largely responsible for many of today’s problems? If this idea rankles you, please just give this economist a listen. (Remember: The best leaders listen to all ideas … not just those that fit their perception of reality.)
Want to think again? You can always revisit last week’s “Future 15”.
Until next week: Don’t stop thinking about the future! But also never forget “It is easier to act your way into a new way of thinking than think your way into a new way of acting“!
