Think Harder: Love him or hate him, for the past 25 years Ray Kurzweil has been one of the most consistently accurate futurists in regard to where the world of technology has been heading. Now, he is predicting a million-fold increase in human intelligence by the year 2045. Here’s something to think about: Even if Kurzweil is off by a factor of 100 that would still suggest humanity would see an increase in human intelligence of 10,000X!
Think Smarter: For my agricultural and farming clients, here is a rather lengthy article offering up a vision for technology and the future of regenerative agriculture. One reason I feel the trend of regenerative agriculture will continue to grow is because of the industry’s need to get smarter about water usage. In France, a number of farmers are moving toward regenerative practices in order to help keep the water cleaner. The same may soon be happening in the United States and it may be something some farmers want to consider. (For those of you in the agriculture industry, here is a a related article that you may enjoy: “Smart Soil Grows 138 percent bigger crops using 40 percent less water.”)
Think Different: Mary Oliver, one of my favorite poets, has a wonderful line: “Always keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable.” To this end, I believe I am realistic in my deep concerns over our changing climate and, yet, I remain optimistic in large part due to human ingenuity and creativity. The possibility that we may soon be beaming solar energy from space appears to be growing more feasible by the day. (One reason is because digital twins may cut down some space research from 100 years to two years!)
Think Longer: Recently, the Wall Street Journal had a good article (but it’s behind a paywall) explaining why human life expectancy will stay between 65 and 90 years for most people. This may be true. Of course, it might also be false. A case-in-point is this article “‘Supermodel granny’ drug extends life in animals” which goes on to suggest that the findings of the scientific research may translate into longer lives for humans.
Think in Questions: What is the difference between imagination and creativity? It is a question which I never gave any thought to until reading this article. I think it may also give you some food for thought.
Afterthought: “I believe that the universe is one being, all its parts are different expressions of the same energy, and they are all in communication with each other, influencing each other, therefore part of one organic whole.” –Robinson Jeffers
