(Editor’s Note: I am doing some thinking of my own this week as I do a long, solitary hike along the Flint Hills Trail in Kansas. This week’s newsletter is abbreviated.)

Think: Unfortunately this Harvard Business Review article is behind a paywall but if you or your organization are engaging in any strategic planning it may be worth paying for because the piece highlights how artificial intelligence can help improve the process: How CEO’s are Using Get AI for Strategic Planning.

Think Fast: After artificial intelligence, the next great technological advance may come from the field of quantum computing. Certain quantum computer chips are already outperforming classical supercomputers in some specialized tasks. This technology could supercharge the future of energy, drug discovery and material science.

Think Again:  Fifteen years ago, electrical vehicles seemed like a pipe dream to many people. Tesla proved the nay-sayers wrong. Today, self-driving shuttles may similarly appear a pipe dream but the company could again prove the skeptics wrong. Last week, Tesla unveiled the self-driving  “Robovan.”

Think Long-term: It’s not always easy to see time, especially those changes which take years and decades to manifest. Nevertheless, visuals can help. If you are having a hard time understanding how fast the planet’s climate is changing, the visual in the link can help.

Think Like an Elder: I found this use of artificial intelligence quite interesting and it could have profound implications for how people consider and contemplate the future: “‘Future AI’ Lets You Speak With a 60 year-old version of Yourself.”

Afterthought: “The future is made of the same stuff as the present.” – Simone Weil
