Today’s “Future 15” is purposely short. As we approach both the Winter Solstice and a new decade, it may feel like the future is getting darker. This ISN’T true. This is not to deny that serious problems remain (they do), but it is important to always remember that the world can improve. These three articles are potent reminders that progress is possible and that the future can be better than today!

Think: Please spend a little time thinking about any or all of these 50 stories. Most of which, sadly, you probably haven’t heard–but should: 50 of the Best News Stories of 2019, Illustrated.

Think Twice: My guess is that if you read the above article you’re probably still thinking, “Well, those stories are nice but the wider world is still going to hell.” Think twice! In many demonstrable ways, the world is getting better: We’ve Just Had the Best Decade in Human History, Seriously.

Think Again: If you read the second article, you may now be feeling slightly more optimistic, but lurking inside your head is the climate crisis (it’s certainly in my head). Yet, even on this front, progress is being made: Seven Ways in Which Human Ingenuity Helps the Planet.

Now, let me be clear: Problems–big problems–still remain. It is a leader’s responsibility to see the world clearly–as it is, not as you wish it to be. However, if you want to move your people, your team, your company or your community in the direction of a better future it helps to remain optimistic, and it is clear there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

Personally, I am optimistic that next year and the next decade will be even better because of people like YOU–people willing to translate their thinking into action!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Blessed New Year and a New Decade to all of you!
