Suggesting that the direction of the future is spiritward is a bold claim.

For starters, it presupposes a belief in spiritual things. The greatest of which is the idea that you, I, and everyone else are spiritual beings.

Personally, I’m convinced that this figure is 100 percent. I will, however, candidly acknowledge that I cannot yet verify my certainty in a scientific manner.

For sake of argument though, let’s place the odds of us humans being spiritual beings at a mere 1 percent.

Even if you are disinclined to accept this low figure because of the lack of scientific evidence, you must–as an open-minded skeptic–remain open to the possibility. Remember the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Still, in spite of the low odds, I am of the opinion that we must pursue the question with the utmost rigor.

Why?

The answer has nothing to do with the odds of me being right and everything to do with the consequences. If we are spiritual beings, the consequences are enormous and paradigm shifting. In fact, the future of humanity and, indeed, the course of evolution may very well depend upon getting the correct answer to this singular question.

My point is this: Even if you disagree with my premise that we are spiritual beings, I hope you will accept that understanding our future depends upon asking and answering the right questions.

And the paramount question, as I see it, is this: Are we spiritual beings?

And, if so, how do we know this to be?

In the coming days, weeks, and months I intend to pursue this question in as intellectually honest manner as possible because I believe it is the most important question of our time.
